What is Order Fulfillment?

Order fulfillment is the process of storing, picking, packing, and shipping orders to your customers on your behalf.

It covers everything from the moment a customer places an order to the moment they receive it. For most businesses, managing that in-house means juggling warehouse leases, staffing, packing supplies, and carrier contracts, all while running your actual business.

A 3PL fulfillment partner like Phoenix Warehouse takes on that entire operation. You send us your inventory and we handle receiving, storage, pick and pack, shipping, and returns. Our ecommerce fulfillment clients get real-time inventory visibility through our warehouse management system, with no minimum order volumes required.

Our Logistics Solutions

How Does Our Fulfillment Process Work?

Phoenix Warehouse handles every stage of order fulfillment from a single Jersey City facility, giving you full visibility and one point of contact from inbound receiving to last-mile delivery.

Step 1 – Inbound Receiving

We receive your inventory at our Jersey City fulfillment center, inspect every shipment, scan and catalog each SKU, and place products into organized locations in our pick and pack warehouse. Whether you’re sending a single pallet or a full container from the Port of NY/NJ, we check everything in accurately, typically within 24 hours of arrival.

Step 2 – Storage and Inventory Management

Your products are stored in our 1,000,000 sq ft New Jersey warehouse, organized by SKU and tracked in real time through our WMS. You can view stock levels, low-inventory alerts, and full order history from your own dashboard at any time. We support standard pallet storage, bin storage for small items, and temperature-controlled or bonded zones for specialized cargo.

Step 3 – Pick, Pack and Ship

When an order comes in through your ecommerce platform, our team picks the items, packs them to your spec, and hands them to the carrier. We offer same-day order fulfillment for orders placed before the daily cutoff. Standard packaging is included, and we can use your branded boxes, custom inserts, or branded tape if you provide them.

For time-sensitive shipments we also offer same-day dispatch and expedited carrier options.

Step 5 – Returns Processing

Returns come back to our facility where we inspect each item, confirm condition, repackage where appropriate, and restock sellable units. You get a full returns report so nothing falls through the cracks. Fast, clean returns handling keeps customers happy and inventory accurate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is order fulfillment?

Order fulfillment is the process of receiving, storing, picking, packing, and shipping orders to customers. When a customer places an order, a fulfillment center like Phoenix Warehouse pulls the item from inventory, packages it, and ships it out.

We handle the entire process from inbound receiving to last-mile handoff, so your customers get accurate orders on time without you managing warehouse staff or space.

Order fulfillment services are third-party operations that handle your logistics from warehouse to doorstep. That includes receiving your inventory, storing it, picking and packing individual orders, managing returns, and coordinating shipping through carrier networks.

Phoenix Warehouse provides full-service order fulfillment from our New Jersey facility, with 99.86% accuracy across 450+ active clients. You get real-time inventory visibility and faster shipping without running your own warehouse.

Yes. Phoenix Warehouse handles ecommerce fulfillment for direct-to-consumer brands, Shopify stores, Amazon sellers, and wholesale distributors. We integrate with your ecommerce platform, receive your inventory, and ship orders directly to your customers.

Our Jersey City location gives East Coast shoppers 1-2 day delivery windows, which reduces cart abandonment and improves customer satisfaction without you paying for your own warehouse.

3PL fulfillment means outsourcing your order processing and shipping to a third-party logistics provider. Instead of leasing warehouse space, hiring staff, and managing shipping accounts yourself, a 3PL like Phoenix Warehouse does all of it on your behalf. You send us your inventory, we store it in our New Jersey fulfillment center, and we pick, pack, and ship every order. You only pay for what you use.

Phoenix Warehouse offers pick and pack services for individual DTC orders, retail replenishment, and subscription box fulfillment. Our team picks items from inventory, packs them to your spec (custom packaging, inserts, branded tape), and ships via your preferred carrier.

Pick and pack services are priced per order or per item, with no long-term contracts. We handle everything from single-SKU orders to complex multi-item kits.

Warehousing and fulfillment are two sides of the same operation. Warehousing covers receiving your inventory, storing it, and keeping it organized and accounted for. Fulfillment is what happens when an order comes in: picking the right items, packing them, and getting them shipped.

Phoenix Warehouse handles both under one roof at our 1,000,000 sq ft Jersey City facility, which means faster turnaround and fewer handoffs compared to using separate providers.

Our fulfillment center is in Jersey City, New Jersey. We’re minutes from the Port of New York/New Jersey and have direct access to I-78, I-95, and Newark Liberty Airport. That location gives us one-day delivery reach to over 50 million people along the East Coast.

If you’re looking for a fulfillment center in New Jersey with real proximity to the port and major freight routes, Phoenix Warehouse is one of the few options with 1,000,000 sq ft of capacity.

Yes. Phoenix Warehouse handles bulky, heavy, and oversized freight alongside standard parcel fulfillment. We manage pallet-in, pallet-out operations for wholesale and retail accounts as well as individual unit picking for DTC orders.

Our facility is equipped for forklift operations, floor-loaded containers, and cross-docking, so whether your product ships in a poly bag or on a 48″ pallet, we have the space and the equipment to handle it.

Phoenix Warehouse ships via UPS, FedEx, USPS, and regional carriers, and we can connect to your existing carrier accounts or use our negotiated rates. Because we ship high volumes across all carriers, our clients often get better rates through our accounts than they’d get independently.

We also handle LTL and FTL freight for larger shipments, with direct relationships with freight brokers and carriers serving the Northeast corridor.

The transition is straightforward. You send us your product specs, current order volume, and SKU list. We’ll provide a quote with per-unit costs for receiving, storage, and fulfillment. Once you’re ready, we coordinate inbound shipping of your inventory to our New Jersey facility and get your orders flowing, usually within 1-2 weeks.

We’ve onboarded hundreds of clients since 1997 and can work around your existing fulfillment schedule to avoid any gaps in service.
